Korean lash lift vs traditional lash lift: the differences revealed!

It is clear that both the Korean and traditional lash lift methods share the same goal: to enhance the lashes and provide a polished, harmonious look. However, the two techniques differ in their approach and the products utilised.

One distinguishing factor of the Korean lash lift concerns the use of adhesive. In the traditional technique, one of the fundamental steps involves applying glue to adhere the lashes to the silicone pad (or shield) before proceeding with the application of the solutions. With the Korean lash lift, this step can be avoided.

The lash curl is achieved through the action of a perming solution based on cysteamine, which is applied along the entire length of the hair, including the tips, unlike the classic lift. This substance, which we will discuss further in the next paragraph, softens the lashes, making them malleable. Thus, the shape is created directly by gently working the hair onto the pad with the aid of a soft modeller (LiftCare Modeller) or thickening powder (LiftCare Powder).

Another clear difference concerns the processing times: the traditional lash lift is generally faster, while the Korean technique usually needs a bit more time so the cysteamine can work gently and evenly. However, when cling film is used, it improves the product’s contact with the lashes and helps it work more efficiently. As a result, the overall processing time can be comparable to, or even shorter than, that of a traditional lash lift, without compromising results.

The classic technique also offers a wider variety in the choice of formulations: depending on the client's needs, you can use cysteamine or opt for products based on thioglycolic acid. In contrast, the Korean lash lift is performed exclusively with a cysteamine-based perming solution, as the method relies on the gentle action of this ingredient to lift and define lashes safely and effectively.
